Old Orchard Beach - Current Study

These files contain information that documents 7 ADP transects taken in the proximity of the Old Orchard Beach outfall buoys on November 04, 2004 by the Maine Geological Survey. The purpose of the ADP survey was to capture ebb and flood current structure during an incoming tide that coincided with onshore (southeast) wind conditions. The Excel workbook contains current data files exported from MATLAB presented in a worksheet format. Notes on each worksheet are included below.

Survey

Excel workbook

  • eastings: easting coordinates in UTM (meters) for Lines 1-7
  • northings: northing coordinates in UTM (meters) for Lines 1-7
  • buoys: coordinates (eastings and northings,UTM,m) for 2 outfall buoys in study area
  • davg_velocities: depth averaged current velocities in cm/s for Lines 1-7
  • davg_dir_cartesian: depth-averaged current directions (in MATLAB format cartesian coordinates) for Lines 1-7.  Cartesian coordinates required for proper data plotting and presentation
  • davg_vel_cartesian: depth-averaged current velocities (in MATLAB format cartesian coordinates) for Lines 1-7
  • surf_velocities: vector-averaged surface current velocities (cm/s) for Lines 1-7
  • surf_dir_cartesian: surface-averaged current directions (in MATLAB format cartesian coordinates) for Lines 1-7
  • surf_vel_cartesian: surface-averaged current velocities (in MATLAB format cartesian coordinates) for Lines 1-7
